What it is made of

Silver, steel, and the stones we set in them.

Macro of polished 925 sterling silver

925 Sterling Silver

Mostly uncoated · Some rhodium-plated or oxidised

Most of our silver is plain 925 with nothing on top. It tarnishes in time, and a polish brings it straight back. Some pieces are rhodium-plated to slow that down, and some are oxidised dark on purpose.

Macro of brushed 316L stainless steel grain

316L Stainless Steel

Surgical grade · Also 18k gold and black plated

Will not tarnish, will not irritate skin, and survives daily wear without ceremony. Also finished in 18k gold plating and in black.

Gemstones & Zirconia

Machine-set · Held securely

Larimar, turquoise, labradorite, topaz, amethyst and more. Stones are machine-set rather than hand-set — a CNC-cut seat grips more securely than a hand-bent claw. Apart from rings, we make our gemstone pieces ourselves.

Looking after it

Made to be worn, not stored.

Steel and silver behave differently over time. Neither needs much, but knowing which is which saves you worrying about the wrong thing. If something does go wrong, bring it to the LOEB counter.

Our services
  • Everyday wear

Both steel and silver are fine in the shower and at the sink. Take pieces off before the pool — chlorine is harder on silver than water ever is.
  • Silver that has dulled

925 silver darkens with air and skin; that is oxidation, not damage. A soft polishing cloth brings it back in a minute. Rhodium-plated pieces resist it for far longer.
  • Steel

316L and 304 do not tarnish and will not turn your skin green. Warm water, a drop of soap, dry with a soft cloth. That is the whole routine.
  • Set stones

Clean around a setting with a soft brush, not a cloth that can catch on a claw. Check the stone sits firm every few months — a loose claw is cheap to fix and expensive to ignore.
  • Storage

Separately, and dry. Chains scratch each other more than anything else will, and a sealed pouch slows silver oxidation considerably.

Since 1996

One sale in 1996. The same family behind the counter.

It started with Martin's first sale at the LOEB Egge in Bern. Thirty years later the counter stands a few steps from where it began — still family-run, and every piece still handled, checked and sized by someone in the shop.
